The Importance of Self-Care (Plus 10 Self-Care Ideas!)

To me, a life worth living is one where you put yourself first and are truly happy. I like to measure success by happiness more than achievements in school or work. If you’re a CEO with a huge bank account but you feel unfulfilled in other aspects of your life, are you truly successful? Taking time for yourself and making sure that you are happy and content is so important, which is where practicing self-care comes in!

Self-care isn’t selfish, it’s necessary. When starting to incorporate self-care into your day-to-day life, you may not know where to start. But don’t worry, because that’s what we're here for!


If you need some ideas, here is a list of 10 ways you can practice self-care outside of face masks and spa nights:


  1. Get outside for a walk to get your heart rate up and give your eyes a break from looking at a computer screen.

  2. Make a healthy, balanced meal that fills you up and tastes really good.

  3. Have a deep conversation with a loved one about anything you need to get off your chest.

  4. Set boundaries in your relationships.

  5. Say yes to doing something you’ve always wanted.

  6. Watch your favorite movie or an episode of your favorite show.

  7. Do 30 minutes of yoga or try meditation.

  8. Take a nap with a cosy blanket.

  9. Grab coffee with a friend you haven’t seen in a while.

  10. Speak to a therapist or counselor.


Self-care isn’t selfish. It’s a necessity. How will you be practicing self-care today?


Practicing self-care is all about letting yourself take a break from your busy life to do something that will help you recharge and reset. There are plenty of ways you can practice self-care which is why it’s so awesome!


Find what works best for you and get into a solid routine of taking care of yourself every day. Even if you do just one thing for 5 minutes, you will feel so much better and it will help improve your mindset and life so much.
